ABSTRACT
I will review the history of how numbers entered our language, world view and artistic expression, from pre-historic times, through Greek, Indian, Arab and European cultures. I will stress the fact that throughout the last three millennia our thinking is based on the belief that the world can be understood and maybe even manipulated through numbers.
